Judging from the interest in the global
marketplace, the EPCglobal / RFID is increasingly being recognised as the
defacto standard for RFID implementation to support the open supply chain. It
is the next generation of product identification system. The retail industry received a wake-up call by
Wal*Mart when it announced that it would require its top 100 suppliers to adopt
EPC/RFID technology by January 2005. Since
then, a great deal of developments had been achieved by EPCglobal Inc.
The EPCglobal Generation 2 standard was
developed and released in December 2004.
It had also been submitted to ISO/IEC jtc1/sc31 to be included in
ISO/IEC 18000 Part 6 Type C : Information Technology, Automatic Identification
and Data Capture Techniques Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for Item
Management Air Interface: Parameters for an RFID Air Interface Communication
at 860 MHz 960 MHz.
The Air Interface standard for the
EPCglobal Generation 2 standard will be discussed in Singapore at the ISO/IEC
JTC1/SC31 Working Group 4 Sub-Group 3 meeting on 6 June 2005. The ISO/IEC JTC1/SC31 plenary meeting will
also be held in Singapore on 9-10 June 2005.
The ISO/IEC JTC1/SC31 is the ISO Automatic
Data Capture Standard Development Committee. It covers both bar code
standards and RFID for item management standards.
In conjunction with this event, with so many
global experts coming, we took the opportunity to organise The EPCglobal /
RFID Forum 2005 Conference. An
exhibition of EPCglobal products, including radio frequency tag / antenna,
radio frequency printers and radio frequency consulting services, will also be
showcased on 8-9 June 2005.
The programme offers a global perspective on
EPCglobal with top quality keynote speakers from Belgium, Japan, Europe, USA,
and Singapore. There will also be
opportunities to network with the speakers and exhibitors.
This attached programme has been designed to
inform and educate, and will tackle the key issues of EPC/RFID head on,
including:
